If the Obamas Can't Understand the Simplest of Concepts, How Can You Expect Them to Understand Anything?

Cavemen didn’t eat pastry.  Starving people in Somalia and Calcutta don’t eat pastry.  You won’t find pastry in areas stricken by extreme poverty or famine.   It’s a luxury of sorts.  Even so, rich people don’t live on pastry.  It’s an elegant treat to be enjoyed at the end of a meal, so exactly how nutritious it may be, will have little effect on most people’s overall health.

Apparently Michelle Obama does not understand this, because her demands that the White House pastry chef make his creations “healthier”, at least in part, caused him to resign.

White House pastry chef resigns: ‘I don’t want to demonize cream, butter, sugar and eggs’

White House executive pastry chef Bill Yosses is resigning after First Lady Michelle Obama fundamentally changed his job duties to focus on healthier food.
Yosses is leaving the White House in June to work on a new project focusing on “food literacy” and The New York Times says Michelle is “partly to blame.” The openly gay chef was hired by Laura Bush in 2007 to make his trademark cookie plates and sugar sculptures. Mrs. Obama took over in 2009 and ordered Yosses to make healthier plates in smaller portions.
Yosses began replacing butter with fruit puree and sugar with honey and agave. But Yosses was never fully committed to the new policy.
“I don’t want to demonize cream, butter, sugar and eggs,” Yosses said, noting that his departure from the White House is a “bittersweet decision.”
Michelle Obama said in a statement that she is “incredibly sad to see Bill Yosses go.”
“I am also so grateful to him for his outstanding work, not just as the White House pastry chef, producing the most delectable creations for everything from birthday celebrations to state visits, but also as a key partner helping us get the White House kitchen garden off the ground and building a healthier future for our next generation. I wish Bill and his husband, Charlie, all the best in their future endeavors,” Michelle Obama said.

I know what you’re thinking, “Big deal.”, right?  That’s what I thought at first, I mean who cares that the White House pastry chef quit. Right?  This story is at least a day old now.  It took me a while to see what’s really important here too.

What is important here is understanding, or lack thereof.  How many people do you know, that wouldn’t understand what I said in the opening paragraph?  None?  Zero?  That’s what I thought. In fact, one would have to be seriously stupid and uninformed to not understand it.  I would bet that you cannot remember a time when you didn’t understand it, even back when you were six years old and younger.  I would also bet that you already know where I’m going with this, but stick with me, because it explains a lot.

Apparently, Michelle Obama does not understand it, and I think it’s time for us to take some time out to understand why.  At this point I going to direct you to that always totally accurate source of information, Wikipedia, where you can read a quick bio on both Michelle and her husband.  A sharp person might notice that both of these two people have led adult lives that were relatively free of serious challenges.  As far as I can tell, neither one ever had a job in the private sector where they were paid according to their output.  It doesn’t look like that they have ever had to rely entirely upon their own abilities, and it doesn’t look like they were ever in direct competition with their peers.

It appears that both of them somehow managed to bypass the setbacks and disappointments that most of us experience in life.  No one likes setbacks or disappointments, but they do tend to make us learn from the experience.  If you never had any setbacks, you probably wouldn’t be anywhere near as wise as you are right now.

Maybe it was their lack of setbacks and disappointments that caused Michelle and Barack to think and behave the way do.  Maybe that’s why they seem unable to understand even the simplest of concepts, like what pastry is supposed to be all about, or that the government can’t force kids to eat healthy food, and even if they could, that one meal per day, on school days isn’t going to make that much of a difference anyway. Maybe that's why they cannot understand why going on a record number of vacations, and spending a record amount on them, is a slap in the face to working Americans facing hard times.

Maybe it’s why her husband can’t figure out why increasing taxes on investment and work, discourages people from working or investing.  Maybe that’s why he doesn’t understand that paying people not to work, encourages them not to work.  Maybe that’s why he can’t understand that forcing employers to pay a higher minimum wage, eliminates jobs.  Maybe that’s why he can’t understand that there is no way, through legislation alone, that you could increase the number of people with health insurance coverage and decrease healthcare costs at the same time.  Maybe that’s why he doesn’t understand that you can’t solve a problem, simply by throwing money at it.  Maybe that’s why he doesn’t understand that a ruthless dictator is going to do whatever he thinks he can get away with.

Both of these people may be “highly educated”, but they never attended the school of hard knocks, and that’s why they are totally unqualified for the positions they hold.
