Merkel Says Cold War Over as 21st Century Rules Take Precedence
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she’s moved on from the Cold War as she upbraided Russia for refusing to play by 21st-century diplomatic rules.
Merkel, the country’s first chancellor from the former Communist East Germany, speaks Russian and has telephoned with President Vladimir Putin regularly since Russia moved to seize Crimea to urge him to back down.
“Fortunately, I like the rest of us have been able to leave the Cold War behind me,” Merkel told reporters in Brussels today when asked about her view of a renewal of the east-west divide. “I also think that history doesn’t easily repeat itself.”
After rejecting Russia’s annexation of Ukraine’s southern Crimea region following the ouster of the former Soviet republic’s Moscow-backed leader, Merkel called on Putin’s government to return to the international fold. She reiterated her stance that “methods of the 19th and 20th centuries certainly can’t successfully resolve the conflicts of the 21st century.”
“Today we’re all very much tied together,” Merkel said. Those who work to dismantle the current system of cooperation “will note sooner or later this will be to their own great disadvantage.”

OK, which is it?  Stoned, stupid, or naive?  “Play”?  “By rules”?  What?  Does she think that this is some kind of freakin’ game?  Let me explain what the “rules” are, have always been, and will always be:  The strong will do whatever they want, until they are either intimidated or defeated by someone stronger.  These are the real rules.  Do you notice that there is no need for anyone to enforce them?   That’s how you know if rules are real.  No one has to enforce the law of the jungle, it’s just there, automatically, existing all by itself, with no enforcement from outside, naturally occurring, and unchangeable, like the laws of physics, chemistry, and mathematics.
Merkel and others, can “put the cold war behind them”, all they want, but what makes them think that will have the least bit of influence on anyone else?
She reiterated her stance that “methods of the 19th and 20th centuries certainly can’t successfully resolve the conflicts of the 21st century.”
Who says Putin is interested in “resolving conflicts”?  He will “resolve conflict”, the way it has always been resolved; by overpowering those who oppose him.
“Today we’re all very much tied together,” Merkel said. Those who work to dismantle the current system of cooperation “will note sooner or later this will be to their own great disadvantage.”
If the words above do not project weakness, I don’t know what does.

    1. How about this line:“I also think that history doesn’t easily repeat itself.” You gotta be kidding me! Isn't "History repeats itself" a cliche? How does she think it got to be a cliche? I think she's she's stoned...and stupid...and naive...and possibly, even retarded.
